The house is located on Søndergade, with a wonderful view down the cobbled street of Østergade at the front and overlooking the sea - the South Funen Archipelago - at the back of the house. Five minutes’ walk to the town square and 10 minutes to the harbour gives easy access to shops, restaurants and entertainment while a walk to the peninsula beach of Vesterstrand and its picturesque beach huts takes 20-30 minutes. You may also have a dip right behind the house (the neighbour doesn’t mind that you use his small pier). Find the exact location here (Link to Goggle Map).
The house is popularly referred to among town folks as “Blæsenborg” (the “Windy Castle”) due to its distinct features and its location within a few metres of the Baltic Sea.
The current owner Jens Rydder has close family links to Ærøskøbing and has visited the town regularly since childhood. He is currently living in Kenya working in international development and acquired Blæsenborg in 2003 with the intention to use it as his future residence in Denmark.
The house dates back to 1874 and was renovated in 2001. It is referred to as a “miniature mansion” illustrative of “how a modest house with distinct visual effects can have a strong presence in the streetscape” in the registry of Ærøskøbing buildings subject to the National Preservation Act.
